The Vannet surname is another surname in my maternal Grandfather's tree with the 'et' ending which hints, at least to me, at a more recent continental extraction.
James Vannet and his wife Margaret Gibson both seem to feature on the 1841 census but neither is present on the 1851 census. In 1841 they were both living in Arbirlot, Angus and some of the OPR records for that parish were damaged so in all likliehood both died between 1841 and 1851 sometime.
Alexander Vannet married Isobel Ramsay from the parish of Panbride and not long after the birth of their first child, 2x great grandmother Barbara the family moved to her home parish and this is where they would remain. From 1836 onwards the family appear to be in Panbride parish at Easthaven.
The Vannet name was continued for at least one more generation in my family as I had a great-aunt Barbara Vannet Duncan.
