Edwin Duncan
1839 -1928
Edwin Duncan was born in Johnshaven, Kincardine in 1839. In his early days Edwin was a weaver but then became a Salmon Fisher and followed therefore in the family tradition. The picture above is of the salmon bothy (building at left) that Edwin was working at in 1961 when the cenus was taken at Bodin.
Edwin married Margaret Sheret on the 8th of August 1862 in Johnshaven. The couple had four children between 1862 and 1868.

John was a salmon fisherman and married Betsy Vannet Herd on the 14/01/1887 in Easthaven near Carnoustie. The couple had 8 children. John and Betsy are the author's great - grandparents. |
James was a Salmon Fisherman and married to Agnes Skinner on the 31/08/1894 in Carnoustie. James wrote poetry in his spare time. James and Agnes had 9 children. |
George was a coupar and married to Jean Bell McBay on the 13/07/1883 in Johnshaven. George and Jeannie had 8 children. George was a tall man and stood at six feet tall. |
Margaret was a dressmaker and married David Douglas on 23/01/1896 in Johnshaven. Margaret and David had 2 children. |

After Margaret died in 1868, Edwin (pictured left) was left a widower with four children. The two youngest children were farmed out with relatives in Johnshaven. Edwin married his second wife Elspeth Cargill (pictured right) in Ethiehaven on the 14th of September 1870. |

Edwin married Mary Fleming on the 14/09/1897 and they had four children. Edwin was a master butcher and tragically died aged only 39. |
Elizabeth looked after her father and the house and never married. |
Robert married Annie Forbes on the 26/09/1899 in Carnoustie and they had 2 children. Robert was a baker in Carnoustie. |
Thomas married Agnes Conacher on the 31/12/1901 in Moneydie and they had five children. Thomas was a master butcher and took over his brother Edwin's business on Edwin's death. The photo above is thought to be of Thomas, but there is some debate. |
Alexander married Florence Smith on the 12/10/1920 in Carnoustie and they had no children.
'Sye' was a salmon fisherman. Sye and Flo lived in Arbroath. |

Adam married 3 times, twice in England. Originally he had his own baker shop and then became a coal miner. |
William married Eliza Forbes on the 19/12/1913 in Carnoustie. William was a salmon fisherman and a gasman. |
Jane helped look after her father and the house and never married. Jane was also a shop manageress in Dundee. There is a seat in Panbride Churchyeard bearing her name. |
Joseph died during WW1 in France after earlier emigrating to Canada, he returned to Europe to fight in the war. Joseph continually volunteered for daring missions and was killed by a sniper. He was a pastry baker and unmarried. |
