This part of the family is sometimes spelled Hird and sometimes Herd. As it is more often Hird and that is what is on William's gravestone in Oathlaw cemtetery as well as to help differentiate from the Herd branch on my maternal grandfather's line I will use Hird.
William Hird married Katharine Gall 2nd of July 1747 in Oathlaw. This is the equal oldest gravestone (see picture above) by generation within my family tree.
There are quite a lot of blacksmith's in my maternal grandmother's family tree and possible William is the first of these, he is the furthest back one that I have record of at the moment.
James Hird married Janet Pyot on the 29th of October 1774 in Oathlaw, Angus. One of their seven children was Mary Hird who married James Wilkie in Newtyle, Angus on the 25th of August 1810.
