Another very interesting part of my family tree is the Burness branch. Rumoured to be related to the bard Rabbie Burns John Burnass was married to Isabel Barclay in the parish of Benholm, normally meaning Johnshaven, in 1768.
The records don't go far enough back to prove common ancestry to Burns but it is known that his family did also have the name of Burness and did originate from the Kincardine area so some relationship is likely.
